Spitfire The Supermarine Spitfire was the brainchild of British designer R. J. Mitchell, who was directly influenced by the Supermarine floatplane racers of the Schneider Cup races. This graphic presentation illustrates the beautiful lines of the design. The beautiful elliptical wing of the Supermarine Spitfires was time consuming to fabricate and required quite talented workers. Without question, the results were impressive. The Spitfires served with distinction in every theatre of war, and after the war many smaller nations flew them as Great Britain sold them at surplus. Order Number 037
