F3F

The Grumman F3F was the first of a long line of designs produced  by Grumman for the U. S. Navy.  The F3F had retractable landing gear which was raised or lowered by the pilot using a hand crank as he flew the  fighter.  This design carried over to Grumman's next design, the F4F Wildcat.  The illustration shows a common navy paint scheme of the time.
