P-38

Richard Bong had a short but exemplary career with the Army Air Corps.  Flying the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, he managed to lead the pack with a final score of forty confirmed enemy aircraft shot down.  He was re-assigned to the states to raise money for the war effort through bond drives.  He died on V-J day while testing Lockheed's new jet fighter the P-80.
