Wright Brothers

Most people know the Wright brothers as the first to fly a powered aircraft successfully, but many are unaware of the contributions they made in the design  of gliders.  Before their success of December 17, 1903, they experienced hundreds of successful gliding flights over the dunes around Kitty Hawk.  A few years after their powered flight they set duration records flying ridge lift in their gliders. The illustration shows both gliding and powered flight.
