P-47
Francis Gabreski was stationed at Pearl Harbor shortly before the attack by the military forces of Japan. At the time, he was flying P-40's, built by the Curtiss Aircraft Company. Within months of the attack he was shipped to Europe and assigned to a unit operating P-47 Thunderbolts. He loved the aircraft and soon rivaled all other American fighter pilots in his combat score.
