P-40 Robert T. Smith was one of the few hundred pilots who volunteered to serve with the AVG (American Volunteer Group) before the U.S. entered World War II. The AVG, better known as the "Flying Tigers," ran up a very impressive score against the air forces of Japan. Fighting for the Chinese, they flew obsolete Curtiss p-40s. This illustration shows R. T. Smith's famous no.77, with other illustrated spots telling the story of the brave Flying Tigers. The original painting has been signed by R. T. Smith. The signature appears on 11x17 and 20x30 prints. Order Number 042
