C-47

The Douglas C-47 was already a legend when the war clouds of the second world war began to form.  Used in all theaters of the war, it is best remembered for it's part in operation "Overlord," the invasion of "fortress Europe" (D-Day) June 6,1944.  Shown is a typical aircraft of the period including uniform patches of the airborne units who were carried into battle by this "skytrain."
