Corsair One of the most recognizable aircraft of the World War II era was the Vought Corsair. The inverted gull wing was distinct in appearance - so distinct that ground units had little trouble identifying it. Brought about by necessity, the lowered wing was needed because of the very large diameter propeller used. The landing gear was then able to be short in length, which was needed for successful aircraft carrier operations. Order Number 096
