The scenario portrayed in this illustration is one illustrating the beginning of the end for the Japanese air superiority of the early years of the war. No longer were American pilots engaging the Japanese in out dated fighters. The Hellcats and Mustangs had reversed the tides of war, and the wave continued to grow and overwhelm the forces of Japan.
