Router Lift

Router Table

Fig. 1

Although I have had a router for most of my life, and have had a homemade CNC router table now for several years, I've never really had what you might call a traditional router table with a cabinet and a nice fence, storage, etc. Long ago I had a Sears Craftsman router table, shown above, but I almost never used it - I can't really explain why. It seemed too much of a hassle to get out, set up, and put away, although there was really nothing wrong with it. I eventually sold it on Craigslist for a little more than what I paid for it many years later.

Once, I needed to add a rounded edge to a project for someone, so I cobbled together the above "router table" in about 30 minutes just to get the job done and out the door. Later, it repeatedly got brought out, clamped to a bench, used, then put away. This "temporary" fix ended up serving me for many years, unfortunately, but every time I used it, I was reminded that I really needed to do something better. Somehow, that time never seemed to materialize until now...
